Competitive release may also influence organismal responses to acidification. Gammarid amphipods flourished under acidification with proportional biomass over three times greater than in the Control treatment. These micrograzers exhibited similar patterns along an acidified rocky reef vent system, in which the greatest densities of amphipods were found at the low pH sites (68).
